Growth Playbook - New Year's Campaign Strategies: From Resolution to Retention

Start the Year Strong with WellnessLiving Marketing

You’re not just managing a business — you’re guiding your clients toward their goals. WellnessLiving’s Marketing Suite gives you the tools to connect, personalize, and keep showing up for clients—even when you’re short on time.

Email marketing doesn’t replace connection—it ensures your business shows up for clients consistently, even when you’re busy serving them in real life.

Let's take a look at some campaigns that will set you up for success in the New Year.

New Year’s Campaign Ideas

To become the guide your clients are looking for this year, your marketing needs to coach, motivate, and support them from day one. That starts with launching the right campaigns to the right people.

Instead of sending one message to your whole list, focus on targeted messaging that speaks directly to each client’s journey. Group clients by whether they’re just getting started, need a push to come back or stay engaged, or are ready to refer others.

Here are a few types of campaign ideas that turn into real results:

  • Motivational Win-Backs – Gently re-engage clients who haven’t visited in a while

  • Lead Nurture Series – Help new leads become long-term clients

  • Challenges for Existing Clients – Boost retention with reward points for setting new goals

  • Referral Campaigns for VIP Clients – Turn loyal clients into advocates

You have everything you need to launch marketing campaigns that attract new clients and re-engage past ones.

Let’s go through what it would look like to put a Motivational Win-Back campaign together.

Motivational Win-Back Campaign

January is a natural restart moment. Clients who drifted away in the fall may be ready to return — they just need a gentle nudge. Don’t worry if you’ve never run a campaign before — this one’s designed to be simple and supportive.

Tactics:

  1. Create a Client Group for clients who have been inactive for 30–90 days

  2. Plan an Email & SMS campaign around your New Year motivational offer

  3. Follow up with motivational client stories that highlight success

  4. Keep them engaged with interest-based content and offers

From Campaign to Results

Here’s how FlowState Yoga Studio ran a January win-back campaign using a simple, supportive re-engagement flow.

  • The Business: FlowState Yoga Studio, a mid-sized urban studio with lapsed members and inactive class pass holders.

  • The Goal: Re-engage clients and rebuild attendance after the holidays with a Win-Back Campaign for Inactive Clients.

Their Story

FlowState Yoga Studio launched a January win-back campaign designed to welcome inactive clients back without guilt or overwhelm. Instead of calling out missed time or expired memberships, the campaign reframes returning as a fresh start.

Clients are invited to come back for just three classes over two weeks, reinforcing that reconnecting doesn’t require starting over — just showing up once. A win-back campaign that removes guilt and restores belonging will outperform one built on discounts or urgency alone.

The Campaign Breakdown

Here’s how their email and SMS flow played out over three phases.

Phase 1: Kickoff

Week 1

Phase 2: Encouragement

Week 2

Phase 3: Final Push

End of week 2

Email: A warm, empathetic email acknowledging how easy it is to fall out of routine. Always include a booking link for easy booking.

Email: Highlight the number of returning clients coming back for their first class, normalizing re-entry and lowering the emotional barrier to action.

Email: Prompt action from hesitant clients by introducing a limited-time incentive, while still reinforcing that returning doesn’t require full commitment.

SMS: January is a great time to ease back into movement, we’d love to welcome you. Your mat is always here. Book a class! [ClientWebAppUrl]— FlowState Yoga 💛

SMS: We’re seeing familiar faces return for their first class this week. Stop thinking about it, you’d fit right in. Book now! [ClientWebAppUrl] — FlowState Yoga 💛

This week only, enjoy 15% off your next class or pass with code NEWME! Even one class counts — book by [Expiry Date.] [ClientWebAppUrl]— FlowState Yoga 💛

Why it works: The focus is reassurance and removing emotional friction with one clear CTA.

Why it works: Reduce hesitation by showing that others are returning too. This phase is about social proof and emotional safety.

Why it works: Clients are guided toward an easy next step — booking a class or reactivating a pass — with a discount.

Track Your Campaign Success

Marketing is about what happens next. Start with just one or two key stats — like open rate or click rate. To improve results and grow your business over time, track how your campaigns perform in your Marketing Campaigns Report.

Track your campaign’s performance by clicking on the App Drawer > Reports > Marketing > Marketing Campaigns.

Don’t aim for perfection — aim for progress. Even small insights can lead to better results with your next message. Whether you’re using email, SMS, or both, Marketing Suite makes it easy to measure impact in real time and adjust based on what’s working.

✅ Key Metrics to Watch in the Marketing Campaigns Report

Not sure what your numbers mean? Each stat gives you insight into what’s working—and what to adjust.

What To Track

Why It Matters

Open Rate (email)

Helps you see if your subject lines are working or need a refresh

Click Rate

Shows how compelling your content + call-to-action is

Response Rate (SMS)

Lets you know if clients are paying attention and taking action

Bookings or Conversions

The ultimate sign that your message drove real action

Unsubscribes

Helps you fine-tune your message timing, relevance, and style.

You also have access to contact-level insights to see how individual clients engage with messages. Review the stats to measure your overall campaign performance and identify how each step contributes to the results.
