This article provides the general steps to inspect and install your Paragon chip and PIN terminal for use with WellnessLiving. For information about features, connectivity, payments, and security, see Complete guide to Paragon chip and PIN terminals.
WellnessLiving currently supports the following Paragon chip and PIN terminals:
Verifone V400m – The current terminal, available for purchase through WellnessLiving.
Verifone V400c Plus (legacy) – No longer available for purchase.
When you receive your terminal, ensure the following components are supplied:
The chip and PIN terminal
The power supply
Inspect the terminal
To inspect the terminal, complete the following:
Verify that there is a serial number on the terminal. The serial number is a series of numbers formatted as XXX-XXX-XXX and located on a sticker on the back of the terminal.
Verify that the serial number on the terminal is the same as the serial number on the package in which it was shipped.
Inspect the terminal for the following issues:
Missing seals or screws.
Additional wires or labels.
Holes in the device.
Anything inserted or attached to any part of the terminal.
If the serial numbers are missing or don't match, or if you find any other issues, contact merchant@wellnessliving.com.
Load a paper roll in the thermal printer
To load a paper roll in the thermal printer, complete the following:
Locate the latch for the paper compartment at the top of the device.
Pull up the latch for the paper compartment and swing the cover outwards.
Install the thermal paper:
Place the paper roll with the thermal side facing outwards. You can easily identify the thermal side of the paper:
Typically, the thermal side is glossy and smooth compared to the non-thermal side, which is matte and rough.
Perform a fingernail test. If you run your fingernail along the receipt roll, the thermal side will produce a marking.
To avoid the paper roll getting jammed, ensure the paper sticks out a bit when placing it into the device.
Close the paper compartment cover and set the latch back in place.
Connect power to the terminal
Steps vary slightly by model.
V400m:
To connect power to the V400m, complete the following:
Locate the power cord port on the left side of the terminal and plug the round barrel connector of the power cord into the power cord port.
Plug the outlet of the power cable into an electrical outlet. The terminal should automatically turn on.
As the terminal powers up, the display may turn on and off a few times.
V400c Plus (legacy):
To connect power to the V400c Plus, complete the following:
Remove the rear cover from the terminal.
Locate the power cord port on the terminal, which may have a lightning icon next to it.
Plug the round barrel connector of the power cord into the power cord port.
After inserting the round barrel connector into the power cord port, you can lock the barrel connector to make sure it remains attached to the terminal.
Plug the outlet of the power cable into an electrical outlet. The terminal should automatically turn on.
As the terminal powers up, the display may turn on and off a few times.
Configure network connectivity
Connect your terminal to the internet so that it can communicate with the payment platform.
Choosing a connection type
The V400m connects over Wi-Fi only. It comes with a charging base and doesn't support a wired ethernet connection.
The V400c Plus (legacy) supports both ethernet and Wi-Fi, but can only use one at a time. Switching between ethernet and Wi-Fi requires contacting Paragon. For more information, see Contact information for merchant processors.
If you're deciding between connection types for the V400c Plus, keep the following in mind:
Wired (ethernet) – more stable and less prone to interference and signal drop. Recommended where available.
Wi-Fi – convenient but can be degraded by interference, physical obstructions, and firmware (internal software) mismatches.
Connect via Wi-Fi
To connect via Wi-Fi, complete the following:
Turn the device on. The main menu will be displayed.
Press and hold the 1, 5, and 9 keys at the same time.
Select Com Control.
V400m: select More > Configuration.
V400c Plus: select Wifi > Configuration.
At the password prompt, enter 200331.
Select OK.
Select WiFi Scan for a list of available networks.
Select the network you would like the device to use.
Select Add then select Pre-Shared-Key (PSK).
Enter the password for the selected Wi-Fi network.
For special characters or symbols, use the following keys on the device keypad:
Press the * key to select an asterisk (*), comma (,), apostrophe ('), or quotation marks (").
Press the 0 key to select a zero (0), space ( ), dash (-), or plus (+).
Press the # key to select a hashtag/pound (#), exclamation mark (!), colon (:), semi-colon (;), at sign (@), equal (=), ampersand (&), back slash (\), open parentheses ((), close parentheses ()), caret (^), percent (%), or dollar sign ($).
Select OK then select Save.
If prompted to apply settings on interface, select Yes.
Tap OK to exit network configuration settings.
Tap the red X until it returns you to the main menu.
If using Wi-Fi, ensure your Wi-Fi network operates on a 5 GHz band to reduce interference and increase speed. Minimize physical obstructions, like walls, between the terminal and the router as these can degrade performance. Regularly update the firmware (internal software) on your terminal and router to avoid compatibility or stability issues.
For connect failed errors, confirm firmware compatibility with Paragon support and retry the Wi-Fi setup.
Connect via ethernet (V400c Plus only)
To connect via ethernet, complete the following:
Take off the casing underneath the terminal.
Locate the ethernet port, which may have a connectivity icon next to it.
Plug the ethernet cord into the ethernet port. Ensure the ethernet cable is connected directly to a router or modem, not a desktop or PC, for optimal functionality and to avoid unsupported configurations.
Register a Paragon chip and PIN terminal
To register a Paragon chip and PIN terminal, complete the following:
Open the App Drawer App Drawer Icon.png then click View All > Setup > Store Configuration > Business > Hardware (PURECloud) > Register reader.
Under Select Model Name, select the model of terminal you want to register.
Under Label, enter a name for your terminal.

On the purchase confirmation page, click Go to client profile then click Account > Transactions.
On the Transactions page, find the $0.01 test transaction. Under the Action column of the transaction, click the More button and select Void Transaction.
At the bottom of the page, click VOID.
Advanced troubleshooting
If you continue to experience technical issues despite following the instructions, consider these steps:
Power cycle – Turn off the terminal and unplug it for 30 seconds before restarting.
Soft reset – Hold the green Enter button and 1 button to reboot the terminal.
Verify network connection – Press and hold the 1, 5, and 9 keys at the same time, then select Com Control > WiFi > Status. If WiFi doesn't show as Up, repeat the steps to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
Ethernet troubleshooting (V400c Plus only) – Inspect the ethernet cable for damage, test using an alternate cable, and try different router ports. Restart the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
Update software – Ensure that the terminal's firmware (internal software) meets the requirements set by the payment processor. Consult your provider for updates.
Factory reset – If all else fails, perform a factory reset by navigating to Settings > System > Factory Reset. Note: A factory reset erases all configured settings. Document any error messages and reach out to technical support for resolution.
