Classes and events are two service types in WellnessLiving. If you're deciding which to use for a new offering, or explaining the difference to a client, this article breaks down how each one works so you can choose the right fit for your business.
Key differences between classes and events
Item | Classes | Events |
|---|---|---|
Client attendance | Clients can attend drop-in classes whenever it suits their own schedule and at any frequency that they desire. | Clients are generally expected to attend each session in order, from first to last. You can also allow clients to book individual sessions, skip sessions, or attend makeup sessions in a different run of the same event. |
Scheduling | You schedule classes directly on the schedule. A scheduled class has no required end date, meaning it can repeat as long as you offer it, and each scheduled class runs independently of the others. | You schedule events through the event itself, in a self-contained block made up of instances. Each block can include multiple sessions at different locations or with different instructors. Every event block must have an end date. There's no option to schedule an event that repeats indefinitely. |
Type creation | When you create a class, you set the title, image, and description. Staff can then schedule sessions of that class on the schedule. | When you create an event, you set the title, image, and description. Staff then create individual runs of that event, each with its own set of scheduled sessions. |
Payment | Clients can pay-per-class, or use Purchase Options:
| Clients typically pay for events separately and in full. Memberships generally don't include event access. You can create Purchase Options that apply to events, and you can set up payment plans so clients pay for an event in installments. |
